Exhibition “The Story of Estonia’s Oldest Hospital”

235 Dedicated Years of Ida-Tallinna Keskhaigla

In order to celebrate ITK’s 235th year, we created an exhibition that conveys the pure and precise nature of medical work, but tells a completely humane story that has changed trough years of medical work. It shows how a small hospital, that focused on helping the poor has transformed into a modern 21st century medical complex. However, the story is told from the point of view of the hospital and its staff throughout the exhibition, allowing the visitors to step out of the patient’s shoes and take a look at the other side.

Our design focused on creating the environment of medical workers, so of course the design needed to be clean and a bit sterile.

But the story it tells is rich in detail and paints a colourful and humane picture of a medical workers’ daily lives through the ages.

“Our main goal is to introduce our people their history and show how much has happened over the years. We also wanted to share our legendary history with the rest of Estonia”

Ralf Allikvee, Director of the Board of ITK

Honour the past and care about the future

For two months ITK’s experts conducted lessons at the exhibition, to give medical students a change to see the full history of Estonian medicine, and give them an opportunity to ask all the questions straight from source.

Thanks to the hands-on applications of the exhibit, all the visitors can experience using an endoscope and sense the development of medical procedures through the years.

Radio ads called people like a nurse would call a doctor.

Marketing materials asked the reader important medical questions that would be answered at the exhibit.

The exhibition can be seen until the end of 2020 on the 2nd floor of Kristiine Center.
